Officials Say Staffing Key to Solving Capacity Crunch
TLANTA — The trucking industry must hire more drivers and pay them more as part of carriers’ efforts to deal with the ongoing capacity crunch, fleet and shipper representatives said here.
They also said freight rates on all modes of transport were likely to rise because of capacity problems. They spoke at the Georgia Tech’s Logistics Institute’s Freight Transportation Capacity Crisis Capacity Summit here Oct. 11-12. The health of the trucking industry depends on the ability to retain drivers, said Chris Lofgren, chief executive officer of truckload carrier Schneider National Inc.
