Components maker Eaton Corp. said it is developing a power control system to reduce battery size, with a focus on hybrids including both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

The $2.5 million project is being funded jointly by Eaton and a Department of Energy grant, Eaton said in a statement.

The project’s goal is to reduce battery size by 50% while improving overall performance, Eaton said.
