Diesel Rises 5.9 Cents to $2.685 a Gallon in Sixth Straight Gain
Gasoline Rises Another 5.4 Cents, to $2.559
The average national price of diesel fuel gained another 5.9 cents from last week in rising to $2.685 a gallon, a sixth straight increase, the Department of Energy said Monday.
Gasoline, meanwhile, rose 5.4 cents to $2.559 a gallon, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.Diesel has risen 27.2 cents in the past six weeks, while gas has jumped 39.4 cents, according to DOE figures.The diesel increase followed a 7.5-cent hike last week and a 5-cent increase two weeks ago. Gas jumped 12.2 cents last week.Diesel is now 14.2 cents higher than the same week last year, while gasoline is 19.3 cents more expensive.Diesel rose in all five national regions, led by a 7.8-cent spike in the Rocky Mountain region to $2.736 a gallon.The West Coast saw the smallest gain, rising just 1.6 cents $2.811, still the highest regional price.California鈥檚 price bump of 0.2 cent brought that state鈥檚 price to $2.899. DOE breaks out California鈥檚 price separately from its national regions, though it is included in the West Coast calculation.Each week DOE surveys 350 diesel filling stations nationwide to get a national snapshot average price.
