The national average diesel price ticked down a half-cent to $3.80 a gallon, its second decline after three consecutive increases, according to data released Aug. 5.

Despite the downturns, diesel's price has dipped just 1.2 cents in the past two weeks. A gallon of trucking’s main fuel now costs 4.5 cents more than it did at this time a year ago.

Regional Trends

Three of the Five PADDs showed increases of less than a penny a gallon. The Gulf Coast showed a 1.2-cent decline, while the Rocky Mountain region increased by the same amount.

The East Coast New England subregion’s 1.8-cent rise was the largest price gain of the week. The Lower Atlantic’s 1.3 cent drop was the biggest decrease.

Gasoline Update

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline went up 1.7 cents to $3.14 a gallon. That’s 30.8 cents less than at at this time in 2024.
