Diesel Falls Another 20¢ to $3.088
Gas Continues Slide, Dropping 25.6¢ to $2.40
Diesel fuel’s national average pump price continued its almost four-month decline, dropping 20 cents to $3.088 a gallon, the Energy Department said Monday.
The downturn left it just 21.5 cents higher than the same week last year, and trucking’s main fuel has fallen $1.676 since topping out at a record $4.764 on July 14.
Gasoline, meanwhile, plunged another 25.6 cents to $2.40 a gallon, continuing its recent downward track and following a 25.8-cent downturn last week.
The decline left gas 61.3 cents below than the same week last year and $1.714 below its record $4.114 a gallon, set July 7.
The price of oil has declined by more than half since mid-July, falling into the mid-$60s a barrel, from a peak closing price of $145.18 set on July 14.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
