DHL and the Teamsters union reached a tentative agreement that averts a national strike, both parties confirmed March 29.

The Teamsters National Negotiating Committee said the four-year agreement includes a 20% wage increase, higher benefits contributions and job protections. It also establishes safeguards against routing systems that leverage artificial intelligence. The deal covers thousands of workers across 26 local chapters nationwide who were threatening to strike.

“This agreement sets a new benchmark at the company and proves once again that no one fights harder for workers in the delivery and logistics industry than the Teamsters union,” said Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien.

The previous DHL Teamsters National Master Agreement was set to expire March 31. This spurred union members to vote by a 96% margin to authorize a strike.

“At DHL Express, we believe that fostering a collaborative and respectful relationship with our employees and their representatives is key to our continued success,” a DHL Express spokesperson said in a statement. “We have worked diligently to reach a fair agreement that reinforces our commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality service to our customers.”

DHL Teamsters members are expected to vote on the agreement in the coming weeks.

“Our members were united and forced DHL to deliver real gains,” said Bill Hamilton, director of the Teamsters Express Division. “The agreement protects jobs, raises standards and puts DHL Teamsters in a stronger position for the future.”
