Daimler Truck, Volvo Teaming Up on New Truck OS Platform

Volvo Group and Daimler Truck are launching a joint venture to develop a software platform for heavy-duty commercial trucks that could set a new industry standard.
The two global truck manufacturers signed a binding agreement for a 50-50 partnership based in Gothenburg, Sweden. The venture aims to develop a centralized operating system that could accelerate industry innovation by separating software from hardware development cycles. This approach would allow trucks to be customized with digital features that aren鈥檛 restricted to specific applications, potentially attracting other manufacturers to adopt the platform.

The project鈥檚 broader goal is to address growing demands for connectivity, safety and efficiency in commercial trucking. The platform will incorporate a high-performance control unit to manage large data volumes and enable wireless software updates. Customers will be able to add and update digital applications remotely, potentially reducing downtime and simplifying maintenance.
