GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration have joined forces to test the effectiveness of states’ truck driver licensing programs.

The pilot program will help states test the speed, efficiency and accuracy with which they record commercial driver license convictions and make this information available to other states.

Clyde Hart, acting deputy administrator of the FMCSA, announced the program at CVSA’s annual meeting, held Sept. 9-14.

The test is a result of a 1999 federal law that requires better CDL recordkeeping and better sharing of information between states. States that do not improve these areas face a lost of the federal funds that go to truck safety enforcement.
