Group to Challenge on Driver Hours, Despite Missing Deadline

California Trucking Association official said the group would go to court to challenge the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s revised drivers’ hours-of-service rules, despite missing a legal deadline.

Stephanie Williams, CTA senior vice president, said the association would have to wait for another group to file suit, then file as an “intervener” in the association’s effort to block the federal truck-safety agency’s new sleeper-berth rule.

“We’re going to do it,” Williams told Transport Topics Oct. 31. “Our strategy now is an intervention.”

Groups have 60 days from when a rule is published to file a legal challenge. The new HOS rules were published Aug. 19, so the 60-day window for challenges closed on Oct. 19.
