ATA Urged to Ask Congress for Reduction in Truck Excise Tax

Members of ATA’s National Accounting and Finance Council proposed that ATA lead a fight to ease the second-heaviest federal tax burden on trucking. Fleets buying new Class 8 trucks and tractors pay more than $3 billion into the Highway Trust Fund annually. Only the federal fuel tax transfers more dollars from trucking to the trust fund.

The portion of the tax NAFC highlighted for consideration by the association is the excise tax on the sales of large trucks and tractors, and does not concern parts or components.
