3.4 Million Truckers Honored as Truck Driver Appreciation Week Continues
The country鈥檚 3.4 million truck drivers are being honored with National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, which began Sept. 13 and runs through Sept. 19.
鈥淣ational Truck Driver Appreciation Week provides us the opportunity to honor the millions of men and women who safely and professionally move freight across this great country each and every day,鈥 ATA President Bill Graves said in a video message kicking off NTDAW.
鈥淲e know what a challenging job driving a truck can be, but we also know that trucks move America forward, and without each of you, we just simply couldn鈥檛 get that job done,鈥 Graves听said.
The millions of truck drivers log more than 169 billion miles each year and deliver almost 70% of U.S. freight tonnage, according to ATA.
鈥淚 call on every American to join me听鈥 and the ATA听鈥 in honoring our drivers,鈥 said ATA Chairman Duane Long, chairman of Longistics in Raleigh, North Carolina. 鈥淎merica鈥檚 truck drivers perform an important duty in helping us maintain our economy and our quality of life, and too often we take them for granted. It is our hope that this weeklong celebration of their dedication to safety and professionalism can change that.鈥
