Motorcar Parts of America Inc., a remanufacturer, manufacturer and distributor of automotive aftermarket parts, has acquired heavy-duty rotating electrical products company Dixie Electric, according to a Jan. 10 press release.

Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing has acquired Mascot Truck Parts, a one-time subsidiary of Meritor Inc., to expand its capacity for heavy- and medium-duty remanufacturing of driveline components.

Aftermarket truck-parts chain Vipar Heavy Duty Inc. said it has purchased the Power Heavy Duty network of parts stores.

Heavy-duty truck parts supplier, FleetPride Inc., said it has acquired the assets of truck parts firm Drake Supply Co. Terms were not disclosed.

FleetPride, an aftermarket supplier of heavy-duty truck and trailer parts, said it has acquired truck parts dealer Westpac Heavy Duty. Terms were not disclosed.

Heavy-duty truck manufacturers said they are experiencing rolling components shortages as suppliers who survived the recession struggle to keep up with the unexpectedly rapid surge in demand for new trucks.

It’s sort of a good problem to have, shortages. It’s a problem that means times are good. Suppliers of components that go into Class 8 trucks say they’re barely able to keep up with demand, as truck manufacturers shift into high gear to meet carriers’ desire to replace their aging vehicles.

The increase in Class 8 truck demand that began late last year has some component makers scrambling to meet the sudden surge, and one analyst warned the supply problem could get worse if orders grow as expected.
